- Heart of the City II
Heart of the City II is delivering Sheffield city centre a commercial, leisure, retail and residential focal point. Building on the success of the original Heart of the City project, the current 1.5 million square foot development will transform this area of the city centre into a dynamic mixed-use district that will help attract more jobs and investment and ultimately make Sheffield an even more rewarding place to live and work. The project is expected to create around 500 construction jobs and the scheme should support between 5,500 and 7,000 jobs once completed.
- New Era Square
New Era Square is a regeneration development project in the city centre funded by inbound Chinese investment and conceived by a UK-Chinese businessman, Jerry Cheung. The development has been dubbed ‘Sheffield’s Chinatown’ and ‘Sheffield’s very own version of New York’s Times Square’ by the local media and has attracted the attention of the National press.
Phase one of the scheme included retail and office space, student accommodation and 2000 square metres of public space with phase two including further student accommodation, retail units, restaurants and a medical centre. The project has created close links with China allowing Sheffield to become a gateway for Chinese businesses looking to invest in the area.
With the continuing growth of high quality industries and an impressive higher education sector, it is not surprising that the population of Sheffield is predicted to grow up to 15% by 2035.
