Sheffield boasts a calendar of major festivals covering everything from food to film and has the UK’s largest community of artists and designers outside of London.
Sheffielders are massive fans of music. There are numerous venues across the city where you can go and watch live bands: The Leadmill, Plug, City Hall and the O2 Academy are some of the highlights you can check out. Bands like Pulp, the Arctic Monkeys, Def Leppard, The Human League have grown out of Sheffield putting it on the map as a vibrant musical city as well as the annual Tramline Festival bringing in superstars from across the Globe.
When it comes to the big screen Sheffield is home to the BAFTA award winner ‘The Full Monty’. It also features in the films ‘Four Lions’, ‘Dead Mans Shoes’ and Shane Meadows series ‘This is England’. Actor Sean Bean, Olympian Jessica Ennis and Jarvis Cocker, Michael Palin of Monty Python fame and Steve Peat have all been or still are, residents of Sheffield.
The city is also home to some of the UK’s best bars and restaurants particularly if you are into your craft beer with Sheffield being given the accolade of the “Real Ale Capital of the World’. Kelham Island was once the beating heart of Sheffield’s manufacturing industry but with continuing investment, it is now becoming the place to go to meet friends and family to relax and unwind with a plethora of multicultural restaurants.
If you live in Sheffield, it is almost guaranteed that Henderson Relish, also known as ‘The Spicy Yorkshire Sauce’, ‘Hendos’, ‘The Black Stuff’ or simply ’Relish’, is your go-to condiment!
